Requirements

These songs are BIG. I mean BIG. So please don't be angry with me if they
don't play. As I say, they should, but you need at least *4* megs of RAM
to play them, minimum. I tested mine on a GUS MAX with 512k and 4 megs and
they work fine. If not, try freeing up more EMS in your startup files...

[Ed. Who knows what CD is babbling about.. You'll need enough free EMS to
load the mods.. so 512k of EMS should be enough for any mod in this batch.
OR, if you have a GUS, you'll need 512k of RAM on the sucker.]

1. Introduction

Hi, everybody. Chromatic Dragon here (Alexander Brandon) with a new music disk
for all you demo music gurus to meditate over and guzzle down. This disk took
weeks to finish, but I know I can do much better, so you'll be seeing bigger
and better songs in the months and years to come.

First, I'd like to explain why my name is CD. In the old days of Dungeons
and Dragons a Chromatic Dragon was a multi headed hydra sort of creature
that had all the heads, colors, and powers of the 5 different dragon classes.
Not that I by any means have the capabilities of my colleagues such as Necros,
Purple Motion, Ryan Cramer, Skaven, or Lizard King. But I do rip ideas. You'll
see what I mean in Introspection II. <G>

How did it all start? Well, one day I got sent a copy of ScreamTracker 3. I
was ecstatic since the only tracker I had ever used before (and loved) was
the MED editor for the Amiga. I had no idea non FM sound was possible on an
IBM! But the great people at Future Crew changed all that, so I threw away
my Adlib Visual Composer and started tracking.

The first song I heard was by Purple Motion called "Inside Out." A really
nice tune, and it came at just the right time during summer vacation, so
people at the lake resort I was staying at loved it when I brought it on
tape. It blended perfectly with the blue skies, warm water, and beautiful
mountains of North Carolina.

Anyway, I never thought I'd be releasing anything until about a year later
when I first heard the song "Realization" by Necros of KLF. It was stunning.
So stunning in fact that my standards were raised about fifty million miles.
My songs went from four track pieces of shit to 14 track, half meg monsters
that rear their heads on this disk. As some of you musicians may know, the
better stuff you hear in your medium (in this case ScreamTracker) the better
the stuff you want to write. For the last two months I've been laboring for
a paramount sound, and this disk is the first attempt. I really hope you
find at least one song in here that you like. If you do and want to tell me
about it, or you don't and want to tell me that I suck and should write
something else, let me know. My address is at the bottom of this text file as
well as in the song "A New Dream" on the S3M instrument list.

T H A N K S ! ! !

There are many people who deserve a hell of a lot of credit for this disk..

First and foremost, thanks go out to Future Crew, who created the demo music
scene and an entirely new, free, and kick ass way to compose music on the
PC. Without them I'd either be wallowing in expenses from General MIDI or
suffering in Adlib FM world, where nobody plays anymore. Also without them
this music disk would not exist.

Next my thanks go to Necros for his inspiration as well as his instruments.
In my opinion he's the best there is in the PC digital world.

John J. Bastianelli, one incredible producer, who was the reason this disk was
made. I have to pay you back for those 5 disks full of samples somehow! :)

Josh Rodman, without whom I wouldn't even know about Necros or most of the
cool stuff that's out there. I also owe ya for sending me Epidemic and the
bundle of invaluable utilities. Thanx!

Lizard King, for he IS king of the 4 track MOD. I also use a few of his
samples.

Robert Allen, for being another cool producer. But what he's producing is a
secret, so I'll wait until it's time to spring the big surprise.

FACE OF THE DRAGON INTRO

Got the mute guitar idea from Jan Hammer! Sounds neat, eh? Actually this
piece was written for all those people who love the music in the Omnimax
theaters. It was in one, in fact, that I became interested in composing...
go figure.

INTROSPECTION II

The original was, in my opinion, better, but I still rather like the
modulations in this piece. It is a continuation of the guy in the 1st
kick ass song by Necros, who says "Tell me who I am" a lot. Here he is
standing at the base of a tree in the middle of a field during the first
stages of a thunderstorm asking that same question. The song follows his
internal quest until he realizes it at the end, and the storm passes. Keep
listening after the last note. You'll hear the rumbling of the clouds in the
distance... (an effect created by the player that was a mess up at first, but
it does sound kinda wicked...)

THE STORY ENDS

Like Styx's song "The Neverending Story?" Well, the story ends here with
this cute little fantasy ditty. Sounds a wee bit like Lizard King, but I
went from 4 to 9 tracks.

SHE WALKED TALL

Ok, there was this girl I went out with a long time ago, who happened to be
the only one I've ever been in love with. So this song is for her as well as
all the people in the world who know what it's like. The instruments may make
you think that this is an out and out copy of "Realization", but the only
thing these two songs have in common are the instruments and a slow tempo.

It's funny. I combined instruments from Necros' "Hyper Control" and
"Realization" and it came out sounding very clean... interesting.

THE HUNT

Curly Michael Cretu (creator of the hit "Enigma" pieces) shows through in this
song. It is not really intended for listening. More for... eh... well... er..
ahem. You know. So if you have a very special someone over for a nightcap,
play this and kick it.

PUSHING THE WALL OF SOUND

Musicians will tell you that when you cram all the sounds you can get onto
one song and think that it sounds good, the "wall of sound" has fallen on
you. This is intended to make you laugh, for it chronicles my trying to make
a neato fast pace song and ends up with me crumpling up the song and throwing
it away and starting a new one. The new one, by accident, is Necros' "Hyper
Control v3.0", and before it gets loose I throw that one away too. Then I
relax with a mediocre Jazz style tune for a bit, and the piece ends. This
song is for all the demo musicians out there who can sympathize with
the endless search for a cool sound.... basically it's me saying "shit!"
twice and then giving up on the song.

A NEW DREAM

Ah, the joy of a first release. This is when I was listening to Rush, Yes,
and Dream Theater like there was no tommorrow and had to write a progressive
tune. It got more downloads on the Amiga forum of CompuServe than any other
MOD, so I think it's safe for me to say that it's reasonably popular. This is
for the thinker, the not easily satisfied. There's plenty of little
roundabouts and weird tempo changes in there. Can you spot them all?

Feel free to e-mail me and give me tips or comments. I'll need 'em! :)

4.FACE OF THE DRAGON 2?

Yes, there will be a second disk. But the songs aren't done yet, so be
patient. I like to make new things better than the old, unlike the stupid
fuckers who made Superman II and Batman Returns....

See you then!
