INSTALLING HTML CREATE!

The HTML Create! setup program makes installation quick and easy. Simply follow the steps outlined below.

1) Uncompress the HTML Create! archive (hc!05fl.ZIP or hc!05sd.ZIP) into a temporary directory, using WinZip or a similar utility.
2) Shut down all program currently running under windows.
2) Double Click the setup.EXE program.
3) The HTML Create! setup program will take you the rest of the way, installing and updating all the necessary files into the appropriate directories.
4) Once installed you can delete the temporary directory and the .ZIP file that you downloaded, in order to conserve disk space.

Notes about installation,

1)The default installation directory is c:/Program Files/HTML Create!
2)If you are using Windows' 95 you can run HTML Create! by pressing the start button and selecting programs | HTML Create! (look for the earth icon).

Windows '95 allows you to remove HTML Create! from your hard drive very easily.

REINSTALLING HTML CREATE!

In theory to reinstall HTML Create! you can just run the setup program again and overwrite the files that have been previously installed, however the setup program does not handle this to well. I suggest that you first uninstall it (see the above instructions) and then run the setup program again. This will ensure that no errors occur.

UPGRADING HTML CREATE!

POSSIBLE INSTALLATION PROBLEMS

While most installation problems can be avoided through the use of the HTML Create! setup program there are still some things that can go wrong. If you have a problem installing HTML Create! take a look at these problems and their solutions. If this doesn't help, go to the HTML Create! homepage (http://www.ualberta.ca/~erickson/create/) and have a look at the reported bugs page to see if anyone else has had your problem. If your still stuck then you can, of course, contact me through e-mail (erickson@gpu.srv.ualberta.ca) and I will do what I can to help you.

Error message, "The file XXXX. DLL could not be found", or "could not start".

Most likely you didn't download the correct package. There are two download packages available, one (hc!05fl.ZIP) contains all the files required to run HTML Create!, while the other, smaller package (hc!05sd.ZIP) does not contain any of the required support . DLL s. If you get the above message, then you probably don't already have the required support . DLL s. Note, for more information about the required files and the download packages, see the Files section of the readme.TXT file.

FIX: Go to the HTML Create! homepage (http://www.ualberta.ca/~erickson/create/) and download the full version. Repeat the installation process outlined above.

Error Message, "... Performed and Illegal action and will be shut down..."
or your computer freezes up when you try to install.

This is what is known as a critical warning message. There are several things that could be happening, I suggest that you shut down and try to reinstall HTML Create! If the problem persists and you have had this problem with installing software before you may have a corrupted .DLL file.

FIX: Shut down and try to reinstall HTML Create!

Note: A corrupted .DLL file will effect much more that the HTML Create! setup program and if possible should be take care of right away. You may need to contact the person who sold you the computer.

Installing on windows 3.x

HTML Create! is a 32-bit program and it requires a 32-bit operating system, like windows '95 or NT 3.51. Windows 3.x is a 16-bit operating system and HTML Create! will not run on it.

Tried to upgrade to a newer version of HTML Create!, but it didn't work.

This is a problem I encountered during testing. It can be solved as follows,

1)Uninstall the old version of HTML Create! (see the Uninstall instructions above).
2)Reinstall the new version (see the Install instructions above).
