                                     "Chips"

  1. What is "Varie"?

Varie is a series of music packs by Breeze / Capacala. This is the second
 issue called "Chips".
As I am not a Core Image member any longer, I do not include the COREIMG.TXT
text file with it and will not mention Core Image in any way.
Varie, as a word, does not (at least to my knowledge) mean anything. But u
can interpret it as you want, for example, something like 'variance' or mis-
 spelled Vair, or something...

  2. About this issue: "Chips"

As the title implies, this release is mainly for chiptune freaks. They're not
very good, but who cares, at least they're (mostly) chiptunes.
And that comes to the definition of ChipTune, I'll define it to you: a module
(usually 4ch PT .MOD, but also some S3Ms exist) with a size of no more than
32kb (32768 bytes or 2 bytes, n:=15) and with all samples under 4096 bytes
long. Arpeggio (0xx or Jxx) is common, but not necessary.
Chiptunes originate from the legendary C64, but Amiga has also had an enor-
mous effect on the development of modern day chiptunes. The players for the PC
today are quite inefficent in playing advanced effects like Cut Note (ECx),
Delay Note (EDx), Delay Pattern (EEx), Pattern Loop (EBx) and the infamous
Invert Loop (EFx). Most of those players that support them, support them wrong.
The best player so far for these effects is CapaMOD, although even that one has
problems with Invert Loop (it doesn't support it, no other probs). Varie-series
uses MIDAS-player by Sahara Surfers: not the best one, but definately better
 than GUSPlay.
