 About SCOOP
ͼ
As most of you allready know, SCOOP was founded around 1985/86 by Charles
Deenen. The SCOOP existing today, is not the same SCOOP Charles founded.
The SCOOP you know now, was refounded in 1992 by Adept and Predator. After
some years fiddeling around with the C64 and the AMIGA, we bought ourselves
a couple of PC's and started assembly programming at once.At the 'Gathering 93'
we came up with a demo for the demo-competition, called 'X&Renovated'. This
demo was due to be released at that party. But the music player failed its
ultimate test. And as you allready know, it wasn't released.
Gathering'94, was a failure for us, from the beginning to the very end.
We came to the party with a demo that only needed linking and fixing of the
music player. Well.. Was that all? I guess not. We found the party to be
VERY boring, so we didnt excactly spend alot of time at the party.
Until we suddenly found out that the deadline was on Friday, instead of
Saturday.. (Ehm..) That gave us about 24 hours to do the linking. Well, well.
We sure didn't make the deadline. This year as last year, the demo-compo was
quite a mess for us. But we released 'Renovative' 2 months later(A BIT LATE..).

Today SCOOP consists of 2 musicians, 1 designer, 4 graphicians, 8 coders,
2 comercial developers and 1 BBS-man. Some of these guys comes from different
platforms and different arenas. To mention but a few groups: SHAPE,
LEGION DESIGN, RIFFS, Beyond Force, The Suppliers, Panoramic Design, CRYPT
and so on... Almost all the members has been fiddeling around on both C64 and
AMIGA, and some of us on the Atari ST(e) too.
Today the programmers are specialized in Visual Basic, Turbo Pascal, C/C++ and
assembly on the IBM/PC, C64 and AMIGA.
SCOOP consists actually of two separate teams, one team that is dedicated
to demos(SCOOP Design), and another that is specialized in making comercial
software(SCOOP Development). Even though the two teams are almost the same, we
have people who only do either thing.
If you want individual information about each member, look at chapter 11.

 SCOOP BBS
ͼ
Another very important subject for SCOOP, is our BBS, run by one man
'The Mercenary'. The BBS started up in late 92, and was called at that time
'Maggis BBS'. At that time, the BBS was a local chatter BBS, and has grown
to be an attractive demo-based BBS today. Because of good support from the
users, the BBS has had the possibility to grow into a well liked BBS.
By arranging a time-limit payment system, people started to pay us to
make the BBS even greater. Thanx to this, we have now the money it takes to
open a second BBS, related to programming and demos only. The two systems
will be linked together twice a day, to exchange information.

 What has happened lately
ͼ
We have been colaborating with several people. Jogeir Liljedahl is one of
them. He has begun making some music for several of our projects, and will
hopefully be a PC / SCOOP member soon. We are also colaborating with
SpaceBalls in making the Gathering invitation demo. Which you have probably
been sitting and waiting for, for like several months.

 SCOOP Music System
ͼ
The name will probably be changed, since Heatseeker/Cryptoburners has
joined in to make it a more flexible system to be used on AMIGA/PC/UNIX/MAC.

The system is an independent sequencer/track system. Which has a variable
length of the sequences. The sequences are independent blocks of notes and
effects, which you put into a track table for each voice. This track table
contains events for the sequences and information on how to play the track.
A track zero contains the information about the whole music and the effects
to follow it.
The player itself generates 32 voices of multitimbrality for the SB/SBPRO/SB16
16 in each speaker. The principal for the player, is to generate sound at
a low CPU-demand, but with a high quality. By using the DMA, we can do so.
'SCOOP DMA Double Buffer' is the method being used for this. It builds upon
a system with 2 buffers at the same size as the frequency of the playback, and
a timer running at 70 Hz to update the buffers. If you know what I am talking
about, you'll find out that the CPU time needed for such a player is almost at
the same level as an FM-player for Adlib.
At this moment in time, actually 2 of the four players for this system has
been finished, and the editor is way over half-finished. You will probably
see a BETA version at a BBS near you around October/November(I hope).

First of all, I would like to take the time to thank all the people who have
been standing by us. Thanx for your support, without the support we probably
wouldn't excist. Another big thank you goes to Strand Data, for sponsoring our
BBS and our group with hardware, big round of applause to you Rudi.

The purpose of this text-file, is to let the world know who SCOOP is, and
what they are doing at every given time.

All the text in this file was written by Adept. And might contain some
information that might be wrong. The information I am talking about, is
mostly the information about each member, since that's the hardest part
to keep track on.

Thanx for taking your time to read this...

Adept / SCOOP
