			  Falcon Campaign Editor
				Version 1.2
		 For Falcon 3.05, MiG-29 1.04, Hornet 1.02
Copyright 15 Oct 94 by Frank W. Racis

Falcon Campaign Editor (FCE) is a program which allows you to change the
characteristics of the pilots in your Falcon/MiG/Horned squadrons, as well
as control the supply status of an ongoing campaign. You can also get
reports on fuel usage, print out squadron information, or generate a
Red Flag mission which matches your next campaign mission.

IMPORTANT ===> FCE modifies data files essential to the proper operation
of Falcon 3. It is highly recommended that you make a backup copy of
your squadron files (SQUAD?.*) before running FCE.

FCE officially supports only the latest version of the Falcon series.
There really isn't a good reason for NOT having the latest version,
anyway. FCE will NOT work with Falcon versions 3.00, 3.0a, 3.0c, and
3.0d. It should work with all other versions, although they are not
explicitly supported.

FCE is a dual mode DOS/Windows program. It will sense which environment
you are using and run the appropriate version. The DOS version is very
simple - it only allows for a few basic commands which affect all the
pilots or supplies of your squadron. The Windows version is very nice,
and allows editing of individual pilots and campaign data.

USING THE DOS VERSION OF FCE
----------------------------
Copy FCE.EXE into your FALCON3 directory, and make this your current
directory. To edit Falcon data, type FCE. To edit MiG-29 data, type
FCE /M. Likewise, for Hornet, use FCE /H.

If you are using Falcon Gold with the "limited installation" option,
you must include the /Cx option, where x is your CD-ROM drive. For
instance, if your CD is drive E, use FCE /CE. You can combine this
with /M or /H (leave a space between the commands).

You will be presented a list of squadrons available for editing. Only
squadrons currently involved in a campaign may be edited. Just enter
the number of the squadron you wish to edit.

Once you select the squadron, you will get a fuel status report showing
each plane and whether it has enough fuel to complete it's mission.

After the fuel report, the menu appears. There are 9 possible choices,
and you can use any or all of them before exiting. Entering an invalid
number will cause FCE to exit and save data. If you do not wish to save
the data, pressing <ctrl>-<break> at the menu will discard any changes.
The options are as follows:

1.) Un-Fatigue all pilots
This sets the "Fatigue" factor of all pilots to 100, bringing them
     up to full rested status.

2.) Make all pilots perfect
This sets the Dogfighting, Bombing, Flying Ability, and Fatigue
factors of all pilots to 100. Highly recommended - the last thing
your wingmen need is artificial stupidity.

3.) Resurrect all dead pilots
This brings back any pilots which are KIA, MIA, or court martialed.
It also sorts the pilot roster by rank. All 30 pilots will be
available. Note that when pilots are "killed" their ability or
fatigue scores often suffer. It's a good idea to run option 2
     after option 3.

4.) Increase all ordnance by 20
This will add 20 items to each type of weapon you have, to a
maximum of 250 of each type. It also gives you 50 ECM pods
total, an additional 4000 bullets, and an additional 150 chaff
     and flares.

5.) Resupply fuel
Gives you a total of 280000 lbs of fuel.

6.) Return number of planes to 18
Gives you a total of 18 planes for your campaign.

7.) Print Squadron Roster
Print a list of pilots, with abilities.

8.) Print flight data
Print a quick overview of your next mission

9.) Generate Emeny Report (Red Flag)
Create a Red Flag mission that looks just like your next
campaign mission. You can take a look at what the enemy
has, or fly a practice run.

There is also the /S command line option. (Think of it as "Squadron").
This selects menu items for you, so you don't have to hit any keys. The
syntax is:
	FCE /Sabbbb
The "a" is the squadron number. The "b"s are the menu items you with to
select. For instance:

FCE /S232
Loads squadron 2, resurrects the dead pilots, and makes everyone perfect

FCE /S4
Gives the fuel report for Squadron 4

FCE /M /S0446
Using MiG campaign 0, resupplies it twice, and fills it with fuel

This feature is handy if you want to set up a batch file to
automatically make all your pilots alive, or perfect, or whatever,
before running Falcon.

USING THE WINDOWS VERSION OF FCE
--------------------------------
Start Windows (duh!) and create a new icon for FCE. You can keep
FCE.EXE wherever you want, but the "Working Directory" must be your
Falcon directory. Double-click on the icon, and you're at the main
menu.

If you're using Falcon Gold and the limited installation, you must
choose File-Setup to select the CD-ROM drive.

Choose File-Open to open a squadron. If you get a message about being
unable to open the squadron names file, your working directory is not
set correctly, or your CD-ROM drive is incorrect (or has the wrong disk).

From the File-Open Dialog box, select Falcon, Mig, or Hornet, then the
squadron name you want to edit. Items on the QuickEdit menu are the same
as those available from the DOS menu. The Reports menu allows you to
view the fuel status report,

The Edit menu lets you do detailed editing, including...

	* Change ability and fatigue for each pilot
	* Change any pilot's rank
	* Rename pilots
	* Resurrect dead pilots (change status)
	* Choose a new name for your squadron
	* Create new squadron names
	* Edit your campaign supply status
	* See fuel status (with graphs)

If you make any changes, you will be prompted to save before exiting or
loading another squadron.

Falcon 3 *CAN* be run in a DOS Window, as long as it's full screen. I
wouldn't recommend this with less than 8MB of memory. Switching out of
Falcon into FCE with Alt-Tab is "possible, but not recommended".
Falcon is pretty unpredictable about disk saves, so I wouldn't trust
this.

MAP COORDINATES
---------------
The map coordinates given in the flight data printout can be seen
by using zooming to 20X on the Mission Planning Map. There is
no way to determine these coordinates in flight.

More information can be found in the Windows Help file.

Legal stuff
-----------
This program is free, and you may distribute as many copies as you wish,
as long as all the files are distributed together, without modifications.
It cannot be sold as commercial software, but a small charge for shareware
distribution is acceptable. If included in a CD-ROM compilation, I get
a free copy of the CD-ROM.

You have been warned to back up your campaign files. If FCE kills your
campaign data, it's your own fault. No warranties are expressed or
implied.

Falcon and MiG-29, and Hornet are products of Spectrum Holobyte. FCE
is not. I am in no way related to Spectrum Holobyte, except that I
purchase their games.

Registration
------------
It's free. Send me an E-Mail saying what you like, what you don't like,
etc. Many of the ideas for FCE came from net-people, so don't be shy.

Send comments, etc. to:

Please include the version number (it's 1.2).
