  1.2 About UFOhippa

UFOhippa is fun tag game with UFOs for two or three human
players. Objective is to fly with UFOs avoiding the tag by flying
away, fooling, using teleports and shooting other players.
When the tag catches other player he will become the tag.
You can always get newest version of UFOhippa from Word Wide Web at
        http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Studios/6517
Code is completely made by Itchi excepted MIDAS Sound System.
Graphics are by Efe and Itchi. Musics are by Kaamos, McFeast and
Lim from Proctoscope. New musicians are welcome. If interested, mail
        me at itchi@iname.com.

  1.3 Starting game

        These instructions are for DOS

Before running UFOhippa first time, you should configure it:
                Type SETUP and press enter
Use up and down arrow to move cursor
                Enter accepts selection

        Type UFOHIPPA and press enter
Change options freely and enter names for players
Choose levels you want to play
You can let UFOhippa to select some level by pressing 'random' button
Press the 'start game' button to begin the game on selected levels
If there are no levels selected, any random level will be played
        Have fun

  1.4 Playing game

First tag will be randomly selected at the beginning of the
game. UFO with letter "H" is the tag. Normally the letter "H" is
white, but right after somebody gets caught, the letter "H" is black.
It means that for first three seconds the tag can't catch anyone.
Players moves their UFO's and shoots with keyboard (See 'Game
controls' section for information on keys) UFO's won't take
any damage, so you can freely do anything with them. This means there
is not any violence in UFOhippa, so even kids can freely play this
game ;). If there are teleports in the level, UFO's can go through
them and appear somewhere else. Blue ones teleports UFOs to another
teleport and red ones teleports them to any legal location on level.
There is a two second limit before same player can go again to any
        teleport.
Every tenth seconds a new box or bottle will appear. They are
taken by moving UFO over them. What you get there is random. Below is
        a list of the choices:

                BOX:
                        -Explosion 40%
                        -Explosion for opponent 30%
                        -Stealth for 5 secs 30%

                BOTTLE:
                        -Speed change 40%
                        -Drunk UFO 35%
                         (Remember that drinking alcoholic drinks
is not good, neither in this game :)
                        -Screen rotation 25%

Game ends when the time is up. Round time can be changed from
menu before beginning a game. You can also end the round by hitting
the ESC key. After round is over, you will see scoring. Player who
has been tag least is winner and most is loser. Time is NOT counted
when player has become tag, but may not catch anyone for three
seconds. Black "H" in tag's UFO indicates that.

        In two player game:
                Winner gets 3 points
                Loser gets nothing

        In three player game:
                Winner gets 5 points
                Second gets 2 points
                Loser gets nothing

If any player is not tag at all he gets 5 extra points

After all rounds are played end screen appears and you will see total
winners and losers. If there would be a tie game, an extra round is
        played.

By pressing the ESC key in any menu or game, it will exit one step.

1.5 Level editor and custom levels

In UFOhippa directory there is a file called EDITOR.EXE. You can
make levels with it. Editor controls are listed under section
        'Editor controls'.
There are some rules in the editor:
-Teleports cannot be too near to blocks from right or left.
If you try to put teleport or block too near for each other,
                 other one will disappear.
-You cannot save level if it is not legal. Illegal levels are:
-If there is not enough room for starting locations for all
                   three players.
-Or if players cannot contact each other because their ways
                   are blocked.

UFOhippa 2.0 does not accept anymore levels which are made with
earlier editor to avoid problems of illegal levels. If you want to
use older levels just open them in the new editor which came with
version 2.0 of UFOhippa, correct possible illegal blocks and save
        the level again.

After you have created good levels you can send them to my e-mail
address itchi@iname.com if you want your levels to be included in
        the next version of UFOhippa.

6. Troubleshooting

  6.1 Known problems

Problem: When I start UFOhippa I get the followin message
MIDAS Error: Unable to lock Virtual DMA buffer
Solution: If you are running UFOhippa from windows, then try
restarting your computer in MS-DOS mode, and try again.
This has happened only in the older version of UFOhippa
(1.35 and 1.36). Version 2.0 should work under win95 too,
but it is still recommended to run it under DOS.

  6.2 Unknown problems

If you find any problems or bugs in UFOhippa that are not listed
above, send e-mail to itchi@iname.com and I'll try to find out
        solution for it.
