*Installing SF Quake:

 NOTE: you MUST have FULL/Registered Quake version 1.06 !

 1-In the Quake directory, make a subdirectory called SFQUAKE

        md sfquake

 2-Go into SFQUAKE and unzip the files into here (IMPORTANT: you must use
   the -d switch with PKZIP to make all the subdirectories appear!)

        cd sfquake
        pkunzip -d sfq10.zip

 3-Go back to the Quake directory and start Quake like this:

        quake -game sfquake

 TROUBLES:
 IF you get a mod_error = you need to patch Quake to 1.06!
 Any other error, be sure you did "PKZIP -D" and you didn't overwrite the
 id1 directory!

*SitRep:

0530Local - Your country needs you!  You've been through the
        roughest training the military has to offer, we've
        invested millions in you - and now its time to earn
        your paycheck.  There is a clear and present danger
        to the nation's security.  We're sending you in solo
        in a 'covert' role to minimize detection.  If caught,
        you will labeled a renegade and unsanctioned .  Do
        not let us down!

     For those new to binding, hit ~ to get the console window and type
       BIND Q "IMPULSE 45"
     Return, and now when you hit Q the Laser Sighting will come on!

*Weapons:

1) Commando Knife: close combat - your last hope

2) MP5 - special forces favorite, close quarters sub-machine gun. High rate
        of fire so watch your ammo consumption.  May take a few shots to
        down a tango. Comes with a bolted on FLASHLIGHT you can use in dark
        places to find the Tangos!

        *RELOADS ---- MP5 clips carry 30 rounds.  When you run out, there
                      will be a delay while you reload (you won't be able to
                      switch weapons or fire during this time!).  You can
                      reload at any time using IMPULSE 49 - its a good idea
                      to reload when you're not under attack!!!
        *FLASHLIGHT-- Use IMPULSE 101 to turn on flashlight, then hit '2' if
                      you want to brighten it!
                      NOTE: if laser site disappears, reselect '2'

3) Assault Shotgun - used for clearing a crowded room.  Slow rate of fire
        but packs a big punch. Fitted with a "duckbill" to spread your buckshot
        horizontally - helping you to reach out and touch even more people!

4) Sniper Rifle - Very slow reloads, but excellent accuracy and power from
        long distance. Long reloading makes this a poor choice for up close
        fighting (4 seconds to reload and settle the rifle).

5) Gas Grenades - toss 'em and gas the baddies (poison gas! do not use near
        hostages!).  Cloud takes about 10 seconds to dissipate so avoid areas
        that you just gassed.

6) Gator Mine Gun - fire these Gator mines and stay away - they will go
        boom if someone gets too close (great surprise for pursuit forces).

7) C4 Charge - packs a HUGE wallop!  Toss them and run, the audio beep means
        the timer has started, and you have 10 SECONDS to be somewhere else.
        This can shake a large room, so no shit - be far away! C4 sticks to
        walls or whatever you toss it at.

8) SAW Machine Gun - the heavy duty big-bertha of guns!  You gotta have pecs
        to cradle this baby, and it mows the lawn too!  Tracer fire helps you
        guide the flaming-tongue-of-death to your target to give the baddies
        a serious case of "lead poisoning"!

Ammo notes:
   SHELLS = Assault Shotgun
   NAILS/BULLETS = MP5, Sniper Rifle, SAW
   ROCKETS = gas grenades, C4 and Gator mines

*Bad Guys:

A) Mercenaries - carry the mp5 also - will hunt you down, but they're not
        too tough.

B) Neo-Nazis - also use the mp5, will blindly charge into any battle and
        fight to the death.

C) Terrorists - big hulking guys in tank-tops.  Can fire grenades at you,
        and love to swing that right-hook up close.  Slow and mean, and they
        can take a few hits.

D) Ninjas - fast, sword packing fellows.  Can jump in on you and dice you up.

E) Snipers - has a sniper rifle just like yours and can reach out and touch
        you from long distance.  They will not leave their nests, so locate
        them and take out their perches early.

F) Helicopter Gunship - fires air-to-mud missiles your way, usually two per
        salvo.  They also tend to alert other forces of your location.

G) Bio-Hazards - an evil concoction of the enemy scientist - this biological
        weapon is attracted to human tissue and feeds on flesh - don't pet
        the science experiments!

H) Others: man-eating fish in many watery areas & guard dogs often found with
        Mercs and Nazis.

*Deathmatches:

Use the 2 included SF deathmatch levels, CITYDM and SFDM, or use original
Quake levels or any other DM level (Quake crashes is the level you load does
not have DM spawn points!).  NOTE:  single player missions 2, 3 and 4 do NOT
have spawn points! Some levels that DO have spawn points you will NOT be
able to exit because they are designed for Kill Em All mode and the exit
is not accessable (see mission descriptions).

*HOSTAGES

Some levels have innocent civilians running around.  Protect them
and do NOT shoot them (levels will not end if a victim dies)!  Once
a fire fight begins near a hostage, they will act unpredicatbly -
they may run to you for protection, OR they may blindly charge one
of the bad guys (and get themselves shot!).   This is whats refered
to as "HOSTAGE MANAGEMENT" - often a hostage will endanger himself
and you in a fire fight.  Deal with it!

*DEMOS

There are 2 demos you can view, DEMO1 and DEMO2. Play them from the game
console like this:

*CHASE CAM

Use impulse 30 to toggle the chase cam on/off.  Great for getting a new
perspective on life! You can also zoom in and away from the player using
impules 34 & 35, or raise and lower camera height using impulses 38 and 39.

*GL-QUAKE FIX

If you use GL Quake and find that the skins look all messed up,
heres what you need to do to fix it (its a GL "mesh" problem, this
will simply make GL re-mesh correctly):
1 - Move all .ms2 files from the ID1/GLquake directory to a temp directory
2 - Run SF-Quake in GL (it will now re-mesh with the new models)
3 - Move the .ms2 models back to the ID1/GLquake dir, and it should still
    work!  BIG thanks to Minh Le and Timothy R. Weiner for helping me figure
    all this out!!!

*SPECIAL FORCES MISSION PACKS

Check back at SF-Quakes home page for more missions.  I'll create
a few related maps at a time (ie 3-4 maps in 1 scenario) and
release a zip of this new mission pack to upgrade SF-Quake! Level
designers feel free to make maps and send 'em to me, I'll post
anything made for SF-Quake!

*SPECIAL FORCES ][: Deadly Force Authorized  (POSSIBLE FUTURE RELEASE)

!Coming Soon! (eta: SEPTEMBER) - planning to add all the goodies I
didn't get around to = more weapons, more baddies, vehicles (like
Dune Buggy, Assault Dirt Bike, Tank, underwater diver-aid, jetski
or something like those). Adding more of a role-playing part, where
different team members specialize in different skills (medic, EOD,
sniper, etc). REALLY want to add motion or infrared goggles too,
to make a 'night' mission really cool. I get more ideas every day!

*Known Bugs :

Minor ones I know about - ammo counts are screwy, and the laser sighting
sometimes gets lost, just reselect that weapon to wake it up.

DEATHMATCH - frag score sometimes shows WRONG count on window, BUT
is keeping correct count to itself (and should show up on frag screen)

If you find one, email it to hitman@stomped.com, and I'll fix
it for the NEXT VERSION.  I wont be releasing a new version every
day or two, cuz that sucks. But expect ver 2.0 in September, and
if SFQ 1.0 needs a critical fix, I'll release a fixed version.
