Steel Panthers Scenario Manager vs 1.1
                                   Notes

The Steel Panthers Scenario Manager allows the user to move Steel Panther
scenarios from one slot to another, delete them from the fixed disk or make
them inactive (in which case they are still on the fixed disk, but not
available to the Steel Panthers game). The program requires that the .CMT and
.DAT files which compose the scenario be located in the SCEN subdirectory of
the game directory (the .TXT file is not required). Manager will work equally
well on Steel Panthers or Steel Panthers II.

Scenarios should be installed in the normal manner. Once installed, start
the manager by typing MANAGER from the game directory. The program will
search the SCEN subdirectory for the appropriate files and display the main
screen. The interface consists of two list boxes, four buttons and two text
picture boxes. Each is described below.

Available Scenarios Listbox:

This box shows which scenarios are in the SCEN subdirectory. A scenario can
be drug (hold down either mouse button while the pointer is over the name and
move the mouse without releasing the button) to either the Desired Scenario
Order listbox and dropped (release the moue button) onto the desired slot, or
dropped on the Inactive box (which will rename the files in such a way that
Steel Panthers will not recognize them) or dropped onto the Delete box (which
will permenantly erase the files from the fixed disk.

Desired Scenario Order Listbox:

This is a listing of all scenarios on the fixed disk and the slot in which
they reside. You may notice some slots say "--Empty--". These slots have no
files on the fixed disk, but do have a .CMT file which says "--Empty--".
Some files may be located the distribution CDROM you purchased, but not on the
fixed disk. These scenarios are displayed in green text and may not be moved
or deleted by Manager. These files are not copied to the fixed disk, even
with a full install. They may, however. be copied over. If you plan on playing
them, it is recommended that they be copied to the game subdirectory SCEN, at
which time they may be moved to another slot. Assuming the CDROM is the E:
drive, and that the game is in C:\STEEL, type

COPY E:\STEEL\SCEN\SCEN???.* C:\STEEL\SCEN

You may have to replace the drive letters and game path with those on your
computer.

Done Button:

No files are altered until this button is clicked. Then all changes are made
and the user is returned to DOS.

Abort Button:

Clicking this button returns the user to DOS without making any changes.

Reset Button:

This button returns all slots to the state in which they were when the
program began. It is an Undo all type button.

Undo Button:

This button undoes the last drag-drop operation.

Inactive Text Picture Box:

Dragging to and dropping on this box will rename the scenario files with a
number > 199. Steel Panthers only looks for files numbered 0 to 199. An
example might be SCEN002.CMT. This file might become SCEN202.CMT. The exact
number depends on what numbers over 199 are available. The Manager program
will rename files up to 999. An inactive scenario will appear on the
Available Scenarios listbox in blue. It can be drug as would any other file,
if dropped on the Desired Scenario Order listbox, will become an active
scenario that Steel Panthers will recognize and if dropped on the Delete
picture box will be deleted from the fixed disk.

Delete Text Picture Box:

Dragging to and dropping on this box will delete the scenario files from the
fixed disk. There will be no way to recover them, except to reinstall from
the scenario distribution disks (Do not use DOS Undelete, as this may corrupt
the ordering of the files and confuse Manager).

Colors:

The user will notice that lines on the listboxes are sometimes colored.

LEFT LISTBOX:
Black: An active scenario.
Red: Scheduled for deletion.
Blue: Scheduled for inactivity.

RIGHT LIST BOX:
Black: An active scenario or one not on the CDROM.
Yellow: Indicates scenario scheduled to be moved to new slot, deleted or made
        inactive.
Green: A scenario on the CDROM (which is has the read only attribute, so that
Manager cannot move or delete them).

F1 Shows small help screen.
ESC From main screen, exits program as would clicking Abort.

Some common questions:

Question: How is Manager vs 1.1 beter than Manager?
Answer: Manager vs 1.1 deals with large numbers of files better than the
previous version and executes more quickly.

Question: How can I get scenario names to show up on the left listbox?
Answer: By installing scenarios from a sceanrio disk, copying them into
the game subdirectory \SCEN from another location on the fixed
disk or or copying scenarios from the CDROM upon which came the
game (see above for how so to do).

Question: How can I make a green CDROM slot say empty?
Answer: Drag any scenario to Delete, then drag the scenario to the slot
you wish to make empty and then drag the scenario to its original
           slot.

Question: Can I install a sceanrio disk without first clearing some slots
           with Manager.
Answer: Yes, although you may cover some scenarios which were in the slots
to which you are installing (in which case they are lost).

Question: Can I put Manager in my path and run it from there. No, Manager
must be in the game directory of Steel Panthers or Steel Panthers
           II in order to function.

Qeustion: If I run Manager from Windows 95, should I first exit to DOS mode?
Answer: No. If you are using Windows 95, Manager should be run from a DOS
window or double click "MANAGER.EXE" in Explorer (the program runs
really, really slow if in a DOS session under Windows 95).

Have fun!
