In case you haven't found it or tried it yet, here's information about the
utility package that Red Baron fanatics won't stop raving about (at least
until Red Baron II comes out...)

The files in this Red Baron hacking tool-kit are:

RBHEX.TXT - Documentation regarding the aircraft performance files,
browse through this first! Updated for 1995.

UNPACK.EXE - This file will extract the data files from the Red Baron
UNPACK.DOC file VOLUME.005 so you can use RBHEX-ED to modify them.
Use this before running RBHEX-ED. Now fully modified for
all four known VOLUME.005 versions, even the German!

RBHEX-ED.EXE - These are the files for the RB Hex Editing program which
RBHEX-ED.DAT will allow you to load and modify the Red Baron aircraft
RBHEX-ED.DOC performance data files.

Also enclosed are the following zipped patches (PLEASE READ the note below
marked IMPORTANT before trying to use any of these patches!!):

BLITZM - *NEW* Just for fun Blitz Machine & Blitz Bomber

                               *** IMPORTANT ***

If the file VOLUME.005 in your version of Red Baron is 423,260 bytes long,
then you can use the patches "as-is." If you have the 511k long VOLUME.005
or the 16 color version then you MUST run UNPACK.EXE before using the
patches. Failure to do so will cause Red Baron to crash. If you are not
sure which version you have, run UNPACK.EXE just to be safe. However, to
avoid problems, it is STRONGLY SUGGESTED that you read the documentation
for UNPACK.EXE and run the program BEFORE trying any of these patches.

ADDENDUM (March 27,1993):

This is the REVISED (V2.0?) Red Baron hacking toolkit. After the initial
release I discovered (through Compuserve user complaints and information
provided by Bill McNeal) that there were TWO 256 color versions of Red Baron.
The two versions had different VOLUME.005 files which caused the original
UNPACK batch file and debug script to crash on the alternate version.
The program UNPACK.EXE has been designed to autodetect and extract files
from BOTH 256 color versions and from the 16 color version. Thanks again
to Bill McNeal for providing the necessary information regarding the
alternate 256 color version!

ADDENDUM (March 1994):

This is version 3.0 of the Red Baron hacking toolkit. After fixing the
16 color and alternate VOLUME.005 file problems, I was alerted by
CIS member Thomas Engel that the patches still didn't work with the German
version of Red Baron! Needless to say I was highly annoyed (but not
really surprised) to find ANOTHER version of the VOLUME.005 file. So I
got a fix out to Thomas pronto, but never bothered to release it generally.
Thanks also to "Jaybird" Johnson and Ian Cooper for their contributions
to this latest (and last?) Red Baron hacking toolkit. Here's looking
forward to Red Baron II!

ADDENDUM (March 1995):

Still disappointed that we haven't seen Red Baron II yet, and the competition
sure has upped the graphics ante for Dynamix! Anyway, I've corrected a few
typos in the RBHEX document, added some new offset information (Scott Mobley
found some very useful ammunition information), and updated some of the
aircraft patches. I go into the stores and see that Red Baron is still a
hot seller, now on CD! I wonder if anyone has tried the hacking kit with
the CD... comments on this would be appreciated! Keep on hacking RB...

By the way, yes I do know that it is still February! March has been
the "traditional" release date for RBHEX so even though I made time to
update everything over the holiday weekend, I kept the March 95 dates...
