2. Installation Instructions
======================================================================
CLEARweb requires a PC compatible running Windows 3.x, Windows NT,
or Windows 95. The installed version of the program needs about 1.4
megabytes of disk space including examples. CLEARweb Viewer works
with Netscape version 1.1 or greater.

- The CLEARweb Viewer file that you download from the Internet is a
self-extracting file. It will be named CWEBVxx.EXE where xx denotes
the version number. Run this file to extract the installation files.
Then run INSTALL.EXE which will install CLEARweb Viewer in its own
directory, and create icons for the program.

- After CLEARweb Viewer is installed on your computer's hard disk, the
Viewer Setup program will run. This program will find your
copy of Netscape and install CLEARweb Viewer as a helper application.
You can let Viewer Setup automatically detect and install Netscape,
or you can manually select the copy of Netscape you want to use
with CLEARweb Viewer.

- You will need to run the Viewer Setup program each time you install a
new version of Netscape.

- Finally, you may have to restart Windows after installation to have
CLEARweb Viewer run correctly.

3. Getting Started with CLEARweb Viewer
======================================================================
You do not need to be connected to the Internet to run CLEARweb Viewer
and display maps, but you do need an active Internet connection to
view web pages with Netscape.

Here are some tips on using the program:

- CLEARweb Viewer automatically offers to open a file when it starts.
Try selecting the PCTOP100.CWM file and click OK to view a map of PC
Magazine's top 100 web sites.

- You can also open a map in CLEARweb Viewer by dragging the CWM file
from File Manager or Windows Explorer and dropping it onto CLEARweb
Viewer.

- To resize the map click the zoom in, zoom out, and fit in
window buttons on the button bar, or select these options on the
View menu. You can also resize the CLEARweb Viewer window and scroll
its contents to see different sections of the map.

- As you move the cursor over the boxes on the map, notice that the
text in each box also appears on the status line.

- CLEARweb Viewer can display a web page with Netscape in several
ways:

Double-click a box with an Internet address in CLEARweb Viewer.
You can recognize a box containing an Internet address, because
the cursor turns into a hand when passing over it.

When a box is selected, you can view the matching page by clicking
the Goto Location button on the button bar or the Goto Location
   item in the View menu.

CLEARweb Viewer will automatically start Netscape if it isn't running
when you try to goto a location.

When Netscape is running, you can drag a box from a map and drop it
right onto Netscape to display the matching page.

- CLEARweb maps can be downloaded from the Internet and displayed
directly in the Viewer. Selecting the Library of CLEARweb Maps in the
Help menu will display a web page listing maps to download.

- You can display an overview of a map by clicking the Navigator button
on the button bar. You can also see the details of the current location
by clicking the Location Details button on the button bar.

- CLEARweb Viewer's behavior can be modified in several ways from the
Preferences window, which is available from the File menu.
