1. Introduction

USE THIS SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK. THE AUTHOR HAS NO LIABILITY FOR ANY
POSSIBLE DAMAGE CAUSED BY DELUXE SKI JUMP.

1.1 About Deluxe Ski Jump

Deluxe Ski Jump is a new generation Ski Jumping Simulation in full
3D graphics. Thanks to precisely modeled real-world physics the realism
is one of the highest ever seen in sports games. Virtually you cannot get
any closer to the ski jumping experience without actually climbing
   to the hill!

Intuitive mouse interface gives you the full control over the real-time
animated ski jumper. You can balance your take off, set the body angles
for flying, take benefit of the winds and finally make a perfect landing
   to please the judges.

The hills vary from tiny K70 hill to HUGE K210 ski flying hill!
In the Grand Hill you can try to make the world's longest jump ever!
Notice: The demo version supports only K105 hill.

You can also challenge all your friends and have big tournaments as
DSJ supports (Registered version only) up to eight players simultaneously.
The whole or even doubled world cup with full line-up of 8 players is
   something extremely fun!

   ...

Feel the air resistance, hear the wind and let your eyes rest on beautiful
landscapes. Before you will even notice it you are wrapped up into the
   wonderful world of Ski Jumping...

3. Ski Jumping Guide

3.1 Introduction to Ski Jumping

3.1A Main Idea

The main idea of ski jumping is to jump as long as possible and to get
the highest possible style points from the judges.

3.1B Length Points

Each hill has a so called K-point (critical point) which is marked with
a red line. The K-point is worth 60 Points. Each meter above the K-point
gives extra points (2.0 points in the small hill, 1.8 points in the big
hill and 1.6 points in the ski flying hill). If the length is below
K-point the points will correspondingly be reduced.

3.1C Style Points

The judges evaluate the style for each jump. They give scores from
minimum of 0.0 Points to maximum of 20.0 Points. The style points
depend on the style of take-off, flying and landing. To get the highest
Style Points the take-off must be well-balanced, the flying stable and
the landing must be a steady telemark landing.

The lowest and the highest of the five style points will be ignored.

3.1D Counting Total Points (example)

   Hill : K120
Length of the jump: 123.5 meters

   Length points : 60.0 + 3.5 * 1.8 = 66.3
   Style Points : (18.5) 19.0 19.0 (19.5) 19.5 = 57.5
   Ignored SPs : Lowest Highest
   Total Points : 66.3 + 57.5 = 123.8 Points

3.1E Ski Jumping Competition

The Ski Jumping competition has two rounds. The first round is jumped
in the order of world cup positions, so that the leader jumps last.
The Second round is jumped in the reversed order of first round's
   results.

The winner of competition is the ski jumper whose total score is highest.

3.1F World Cup Scoring

In each competition ski jumpers score World Cup Points as shown below:

        Pos: Score: Pos: Score:

          1. 100 PTS 9. 29 PTS
          2. 80 PTS 10. 26 PTS
          3. 60 PTS 11. 24 PTS
          4. 50 PTS 12. 22 PTS
          5. 45 PTS 13. 20 PTS
          6. 40 PTS 14. 18 PTS
          7. 36 PTS 15. 16 PTS
          8. 32 PTS 16. 15 PTS

The winner of World Cup is the ski jumper whose total score is highest
at the end of the season.

3.2 Ski Jumping Controls

3.2A Start Slide:

Click left mouse button to start sliding.

   Hints:
Observe the wind meter and the start lights!

3.2B Take-Off:

Push and hold left and right mouse button simultaneously down to
   jump from the take-off board.

Release mouse buttons right after the take-off.

   Hints:
Your jump has more power and balance if you manage to push the buttons
   precisely at the same time.

3.2C Flying:

Move mouse gently up and down to control your body angle.

   Hints:
Maintain the horizontal speed and try to keep your altitude.
   Take benefit of the wind!

3.2D Two-footed landing:

Click left and right mouse button simultaneously to do a two-footed
   landing.

   Hints:
Use two-footed landing if you are flying too far.
Two footed landing is more safe and quicker than telemark landing,
but your style points will be worse.

3.2E Telemark landing:

Click first right and then left mouse button with a small delay.
   Longer delay means wider telemark.

You can also click the buttons in reverse order.

   Hints:
Do not try to make a too wide telemark landing or you will fall down.

3.3 Options

3.3A Set Players

You can activate/disable players by clicking the check boxes on the left
   side of the screen.

To change player settings click on the player's name.
You can set names and colors for each player.

3.3B Set Opponents

To Activate/disable opponents click the check boxes on the left side of
   the screen.

To change opponent settings click on the opponent's name.
You can set names, colors and skills for each opponent.
Available skill levels are: poor, average, superb and random.
Random skill levels will be randomized in the beginning of each
   world cup.

   "View opponents' jumps"
This option determines whether the game shows how the opponents jump
   in the world cup.
It might be a good idea to disable this option when competing in
full 8 hill world cup with maximum 8 opponents.

3.3C Select Hills

Select Hills for World Cup by clicking the names of the hills.

   "Double World Cup"
If this option is active the selected hills will be competed twice in
   the world cup.

3.4 The Start Lights

After the green light goes on you have exactly 20 seconds time to
start your jump. The red light starts blinking when you have three
seconds left. If you exceed the time limit you will be disqualified and
   you will score zero points.

3.5 The Wind Meter

The wind meter indicates the direction and the speed of the wind.
The speed is given in meters per second. The optimal wind condition is
   usually a headwind (1.5 - 3.5 m/s) but it differs a little between
   the hills and jumping styles.

3.6 The Hill Records

Deluxe Ski Jump keeps track of the hill records for all the 8 hills.
The record jumps must be done in official world cup competitions.
The hill records will be accepted only if you stay on your feet!

CPU opponents cannot have hill records even if they jump long enough.
