   * Distributor wanted!
     We're looking for a company who's interested in distributing this game. If
     your company is interested don't hesitate to ask for the full version.
   * Composer wanted!
     We're also looking for someone who can make a nice sound track with TANK
     ARENA. The soundtrack has to be in plain .MID format, mail us if you'd
     like to help us out.
   * Sound effects wanted!
     The final thing that is missing in this game is a load of sound effects.
     If you know a place where we can get a lot of explosions and stuff like
     that. Please mail.

Short description

TANK ARENA is a PC game which fills a big hole in today's games: most of the
games are made for one player only, very few games are for two players and most
of the times you need two computers. This game however can be played with one
or two persons on the same computer. The mission goal is of course very simple:
kill your opponent's tank before he kills you... There are loads of weapons to
do this and there are also many different opponents.

To learn a little bit more about the game it is almost impossible to not split
up the game into the basic game modes:

   * Dual player game: In this game mode the screen gets divided into two
     halves. Two players can play on the same computer using the keyboard or
     using up to 2 joysticks. Within this mode there are three possible mission
     objectives:

        o Just Kill Each other: I think this point speaks for itself; each
          player gets three tanks and a load of weapons. The mission objective:
          locate and destroy the other player.

        o Capture the Flag: The classic capture the flag game; only this time
          with tanks. Each player has an unlimited number of tank to find the
          flag and bring it back to his base.

        o Racing: Race cars are also available; race against each other and
          race amongst pits, ramps, warps, spinning wheels, etc.

   * Single player game: Play against computer tanks, trains, b52's,
     helicopters, turrets, etc. You can select any of your tanks at any time to
     make it a very strategic game.

   * Cooperative play: Play with two people at the same time against the
     computer. All options of the single player game are available, you can
     even play some of the single player levels with two people. Both players
     can select any tank any time during the game.

If you still have questions after this introductory text, just down load a
playable demo and try it out for yourself, it's somewhere down here.

Screen shots

Here are some screenshots of the game. While playing you can make them yourself
by pressing PRINT SCREEN. These images are 320x200 and are best viewed when
enlarged to fit the screen and with a private color map.

   * Screen shot of the "air strike" mission included in the demo. A Fairchild
     is taking out two anti-air missile silos with a bomb.
   * Screen shot of the "air strike" mission included in the demo. The
     Fairchild is attacking enemy tanks
   * Screen shot of a night mission in the desert.
   * Screen shot of a race level, player one is jumping over a pit.
   * Screen shot of a race level, player two is chasing and shooting at player
     one.

A free demo

BECAUSE THIS IS A DEMO IT COMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY, I AM NOT
RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES DUE TO THIS DEMO.

You can get the file tank.zip (version 09/13/96) by clicking on this.

Save it to your local disk and do:

   * PKUNZIP -d TANK.ZIP to extract it.
   * Run SETUP to setup your soundcard or joystick.
   * Look at the menu "Configurate Keys" for a description of the control keys.
   * Start TANK and go to the "ARENA INFO" menu and read it. Or if you don't
     want to do that, press enter a couple of times and find out yourself.

If you did this and you still have problems read the FAQ, if you still have
questions mail them to me. The text version of the FAQ and all these documents
are in the ZIP file too.

The demo features three levels:

   * A capture the flag mission: This mission is for two players. The map
     consists of two bases. Player one starts in the north-west and player two
     starts in the south east. In the middle of this map this map is a lake
     surrounded by a forest, in the middle of the lake is an island with two
     buildings on it. Shoot the buildings and you will find your flag, take it
     and return to your base. Other nice options in this map are the two warps
     that will lead you from close to your base to close to your opponents
     base. If your opponent got his flag then you wait for him at his own base
     if you can find the warp quick enough.

   * A one player mission: Your mission objective is to destroy all fuel tanks
     in this map. A further briefing will follow if you start this level.

   * A two player versus computer mission: This is not an easy mission. You
     start at your base in the north-west in the map. Your mission goal is in
     the south-east. Use your choppers first to take out the anti-air missile
     constructions, then take out the rest of the base with your Fairchilds.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is it a demo?

   * Only three levels.
   * Losers tank disabled.
   * Map editor disabled.
   * Movies not included.
   * Music disabled.
   * Very limited number of sounds.
   * Hi-res modes disabled.
   * Not even half of the scenery.

History

In march 1994 Dennis and me started on this project. It started as a bet:
Dennis told me I couldn't program a game, I told him I could. Soon a plan for
the game was made, the game would look like this:

   * Two tanks (now called the devastator and the standard tank).
   * One world (the desert).
   * Three different types of walls (brick, wood, hedges).
   * Two tank bases.
   * The main gun, chain gun, flame thrower, mines and men.

Since then we have been working on this and now there are over 2500 pictures
and over 100000 lines of source code in djgpp (C-compiler) and assembler. The
game is almost finished now and we're looking for someone to distribute it.
