Program: VB Add Sound for Win95
Version: 1.01
Date: 7/21/96
Cost: Free
Author: Michael Krane

Note: This progran requires the Visual Basic 4 32 bit Runtime files vb40032.dll (and others that come with it). The runtime files should be located in your Windows/System Directory normally. They are available on AOL, CIS, The Internet, or the easiest way from my Web site at:
(If .html files are associated with a Web Browser, There is a menu item that will take you right to my web site)

This program is made for one purpose only; It will add some sound events for a specific program that you pick and lists them in Control Panel\Sounds where you edit the sounds as Normal. It is a very simple program with only limited functions; It can Add and Delete any Program File (.exe) name to the Control Panel\Sounds; (No Files are actually Added or Deleted: VB Add Sound only edits some Registry entries.) It Will add 7 sound events to each item: Open, Close, Minimize, Maximize, Restore Up, Restore Down, and MenuPopup.

Installation:

To use this either right click the VBASound.inf file to have it automatically install itself as listed below or simply copy the VBASound.exe file to any directory you want, create the shortcut if desired as described below in Manual install. (No install is really needed if you don't want since the only file this program uses is the VBASound.exe file.)

Automatic Install:

Right Click the VBASound.inf file and it will automatically install itself in the "C:\Program Files\VBASound" directory. It will also create 1 Shortcut on the start menu under Accessorries. The automatic install will also add an uninstall option to the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs which will delete the files, any registry entries the program creates, and the shortcut.

Manual Install:

To Manually install: Copy the VBASound.exe file to ANY directory you want. Create a Shortcut for the program. If you do the Manual install then there will be no automatic uninstall available. To un-install you will need to delete the files and shortcut yourself.

To Use the Program:

Click the ADD button if you want to Add the sound events for a specific program. Search through your computer for the program file (.exe) that runs the program. Select the program and click OK and it will be added to the Control Panel Sounds section. No sounds will be initially available so to actually add the sounds, you need to go to Control Panel Sounds and assign a sound file (.wav) to the new entry that VB Add Sound entered there. Some sounds events can conflict with the normal System wide sound events but usually the individual program settings still work.
Click the Delete Button to Delete an entry from the Control Panel Sounds Section. (Use caution because some programs add special events that if deleted, will not be able to be replaced unless you re-install that program. Normally, you would want to Delete only entries that you have added from this program.) Pick a program from the List that you want added and click Delete The Selected Key; All events for that program will be Deleted.

I write programs that I feel I have a need for. I wanted to add some sounds specific for certain programs and editing the registry manually was too hard so I wrote this program. It is fairly basic and has limited functions only which is why it's free and UNSUPPORTED. If you have a problem, E-mail me at MIKLK@aol.com and tell me about it. I do NOT plan to upgrade this program at all or add any features except to fix any problems that come up. I'm sure if you want more features, you can find other inexpensive programs that will fit your needs.

This Program is FreeWare and you can use it and do whatever you like with it as long as you agree that I am not responsible for ANYTHING related to using this program. There is no warranty for the program, use of the program, problems caused by the program, etc... It is completely UNSUPPORTED and free.

If you do like or at least have a use for this program, the only thing I ask is that you download and evaluate one of my Shareware programs. The 2 shareware programs I have out at the time this was written are:

VBSys Windows System Monitor $10
There is a 16 Bit version for Win 3.xx and a 32 Bit Version for Win 95 available.
This program has received several major positive reviews including Windows Mag, Ziff Davis Publishing, etc..

WAOL-min WAOL Timer $5
A simple but effective and affordable Timer for keeping track of your America Online Time. Also an extremely popular program.

My programs are available from many sources and services but the easiest way to find them is direct from my web site at:
