Orchid Technology SoundWave32 Series Installation with OS/2 Warp v3.0 -------------------------------- This document gives detailed instructions for using the Business Audio driver that comes with OS/2 Warp with the Orchid SoundWave 32, and SoundWave 32+SCSI. This will allow WAV playback and record capability, but not the use of MIDI or SoundBlaster support under OS/2. At this time there are no plans for further OS/2 development for the SoundWave 32 series. These instructions assume that you already have Warp installed on your system. During the course of the Business Audio driver installation OS/2 will need to read files from your OS/2 CD-ROM or OS/2 diskettes, so have those handy before beginning the installation. Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1. Before beginning the OS/2 installation, run Windows from DOS and check the driver setup for the SoundWave 32 in the Drivers section of Control Panel. Look at the "Setup" button screen for the SW32 driver and write down the addresses you've selected for use for the Windows Sound System emulation. You'll need to know those addresses during the OS/2 install. 2. After making note of the addresses, close Windows and boot Warp. 3. Once Warp is up and running, open the OS/2 System Folder on the desktop. Open the System Setup folder, then choose the Selective Install icon. 4. From the System Configuration screen look at the Multimedia Device Support selection. That choice should say "None". If that line indicates that you already have a Multimedia driver installed (other than Business Audio) you should remove it and restart OS/2 before proceeding. If the selection says "None", then click on the Multimedia Device Support button. 5. On the Device Selections and Settings screen you'll see 2 columns. One called Supported Device(s), and another called Devices(s) in System to be Installed. From the Supported Devices column, highlight the "Business Audio (AD1848)" choice, and press the Add button. The Business Audio (AD1848)" choice should now show in the Devices(s) in System to be Installed column. 6. **IMPORTANT NOTE** This step is often missed and is very important in order for the driver to work correctly. Press the Device Settings button and set the Port Address, DMA and Interrupt Level values to match the addresses you made note of in step 1 (the addresses you use for the SW32 for Windows Sound System). After entering the addresses, press the OK button. 7. From the Device Selections and Settings screen, press OK again. Then from the System Configuration screen, press OK again. 8. The OS/2 Setup and Installation screen will pop up, with the Multimedia checkbox checked. Press the Install button (don't make any changes on that screen). 9. OS/2 will ask you for the path to your OS/2 CD-ROM, or prompt you to insert some OS/2 diskettes. Check that the path is correct, and insert the disks as instructed. ***** NOTE: DO NOT SHUTDOWN OR RESTART OS/2 AT THIS TIME. 10. Even though OS/2 will notify you that you should restart your system, you need to edit some lines in your CONFIG.SYS file first. Use your favorite text editor to change the following line: DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\BUSAUDIO.SYS T:MS_SOUND ... etc. to read..... DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\BUSAUDIO.SYS T:SW32 ... etc. The completed line should look something like this. Your address values may vary: DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\BUSAUDIO.SYS T:SW32 P:530 D:3 I:11 N:BSAUD1$ 11. Save your changes to CONFIG.SYS, then Shutdown and restart OS/2 for the changes to take effect. Once OS/2 restarts you should have the ability to record and playback WAV files.
