                 ***** DDIR 12.0a - IMPORTANT NOTE ***

Versions prior to 9.3
=====================

If you are upgrading from a version of DDIR earlier than 9.3,
please note that the keys have been substantially changed. The
earliest versions had very few functions - basically the sort routines,
and the keys were mapped mnemonically. However, as more features were
added at the request of users it became more and more difficult to assign
keys reasonably logically. Hence, in version 9.3, I bit the bullet and
remapped the keys. If, as a user of an earlier version, you
find this confusing at first, please accept my apologies and take
comfort in the fact that it was, for a short time, just as difficult for
me! Thanks for your understanding, and I hope you find the new
configuration to be logical!

                          ---------------------------

Versions 9.3 to 11.1
====================

If you are upgrading from a version later than 9.3, you will find some
further changes. In particular the role of the up and down arrow keys has
changed. In earlier versions they were used to scroll the list of files
backwartds and forwards. In version 10.0 I have changed them so that they
move the highlight bar up and down in the list of files. The grey + and
grey - keys replace the former function of the up and down arrow keys.

I have also replaced the + key, which toggled file protection on and off,
to the p key (p = protect), to give compatibility with non-US keyboards.
The p key was formerly used for printing the list of files; this function
is now enabled with the Ins key.

Version 12.0
============

I have simplified the scrolling functions in this version. In particular,
I have added a left-right scroll function, and I have deleted the - and +
key functions for scrolling. I have also removed the "tab help" function
in which pressing tab changed the help display at the bottom of the screen.
This is because the scroll key simplifications mean that I ahve been able
to include the full help information obtained when you press the F1 key.
Although it may seem as if some functionality has been lost, I have
simplified the interface to DDIR, and no real functionality has gone. In
fact the addition of the left and right arrow keys adds significant new
functionality. (These keys were not comaptible with the role of the - and
+ keys).
